About Josef
It was while studying in art school that Josef Kandoll W. shot his first wedding. The ceremony was in a small wooden country church in the plains of North Dakota and the reception in rolling hayfields with trays laden with country fare on ancient prairie wagons. The black and white infrared images caught the attention of the teachers to garner him his first student exhibit.
Other early weddings included one in an elegant historical hotel in northern Wisconsin and another in an orchard along the banks of a rambling river with bunches of ferns and wildflowers in galvanized buckets. In each of these weddings, he depicted the elements that truly made the wedding a special event not only for the bride and groom but for the invited guests and family.
While the intervening years were focused primarily on travel photography in his growing career as a travel writer, it was the opportunity to assist as second photographer at the wedding of two Hollywood stars at the exclusive Las Alamandas in Costalegre, Mexico that encouraged him to take a second look at weddings. The fortune of a published photo from that event in People magazine gave him his first international “creds” and he was on his way.
Whether your event is large or small, exclusive or public, fun or fancy, Josef will give you unforgettable images that go to the heart of the amazingly special day when two are joined as one. (Can you tell he’s a romantic at heart?!) Beyond the romance, he knows how to capture details, whether in the petals of the flowers, the edges of fine lace or the third application of mascara.
His background in photojournalism brings that freshness to his work reflected in images from up close and personal to the bird’s eye view, or maybe even of the pelicans passing overhead during the ceremony, something he sees as a good omen. On the other hand, “luck” is what you make of life. So give it your all, and he will do the same for you!
